Switches, quick-action.-In a switch of the dead-centre quick make and quick break tvpe having a coaxially mounted operating-member, intermediate member (which forms one arm of a quick-action compression-spring toggle) and contact-member, the intermediate member has on each face or each axial extremity an abutment adapted to co-operate, with lost-motion, with abutments provided, on the one hand, on the contact-member, and on the other hand, on the operating-member. In the construction shown in Figs. 2 and 5, the switch spindle e which carries the contact-members g is journaled at one end in the casing and at the other end in a sleeve d which takes a bearing in the other end of the casing. The sleeve has fixed upon it, externally, the handle b and, internally, the notched operating-member o. The spindle itself has fixed upon it a driven member i notched like the member c, and the sleeve carries loosely the intermediate member j which constitutes a toggle with the link k trunnioned at l and under the control of the compression spring m. The pivot pin u between these two links projects at both faces of the intermediate member and, in order to hold it in place, it is formed with a central notch or annular groove engaged by the perfcrated end of the link k under the action of the spring m. The notches in the operating and driven members co-operate with the projecting ends of the pivot pin to afford double lost-motion. A spiral spring t around the spindle secured between it and the intermediate member ensures that the contact-member is retained in its full open position in relation to the intermediate member. The open and closed positions are shown in Figs. 2 and 5 respectively. In a modification, Fig. 7, instead of using notched operators and driven members these members are formed with axial projections q, r interengaging with axial projections p on the intermediate member in the manner of a clutch, but providing for double lost-motion.
