Switches, quick-action. - The quick-action device is mounted on the exterior of the main switch casing and comprises, Figs. 7 and 11, a two-part casing 30, 31 in one part 30 of which is mounted an operating-arm 55 connected to a member 44, and in the other 31 is mounted an elliptical member 32 connected to the switch, and an intermediate bar-member 35 the ends 36 of which engage recesses in the member 32 so that the members 32, 35 always rotate together. The ends 36 are also pressed by a spring 39 into engagement with two of four equidistant slots 59 in the casing, so that normally the member 35 cannot rotate. When the operating-arm 55 is rotated, the member 44 moves with it, and a shoulder 46 on the member 44 engages one end of a spring 42 and moves it towards the other end, which is prevented from moving by a projection 41 on the member 32 till a cam surface 60 on the member 44 presses down the bar 35 against the action of the spring 39 and releases it from engagement with the casing. The spring 42 then causes the members 32, 35 to rotate and the switch to open or close. For this purpose the member 32 is fixed to a shaft 63 which carries a crank 62 which is connected by a link 64, Fig. 1, to crank 22 on a shaft 20, rotation of the shaft 20 actuating cranks 19 and links 18 connected to switch arms 12 pivoted at 9<b>.
