Abstract
215,933. Beckett, G. A. April 23, 1923. Fluid-friction vibrationdampers. - In shock absorbers for spring suspensions of vehicles and of the kind comprising one or more cylinders with non- return inlet valves, and one or more plungers fitted with bucket leathers, each cylinder is provided with one or more small apertures at the same end thereof as each inlet valve to restrict the release of air. A screw adjustment may be provided in the connection of the plunger rod to the axle or chassis to vary the effective length thereof. A disc 19, Fig. 5, secured on the plunger rod 7 carries reversed bucket leathers 20, 21 and each end of the cylinder 1 is provided with a non-return air-inlet valve 26 and a release aperture 29. when two cylinders are employed as shown in Fig. 6, the plungers 19<a>, 19<b> comprise single bucket leathers relatively reversed, one end of the cylinder 1<a> being provided with an inlet valve 27<a> and release aperture 29<a> and the opposite end of the other cylinder 1<b> with an inlet valve 27b and release aperture 29b. Apertures 30 may be provided in the other ends of the cylinders.
