Abstract
444,540. Vehicle spring-suspensions. FAUDI, F., 5, Bahnhofstrasse, Kronberg, Taunus, Germany. Aug. 14, 1935, No. 22889. Convention date, Aug. 25, 1934. [Class 108 (ii)] In road vehicles a pneumatic springing is provided comprising a pressure regulator in which the piston is connected by a spring- controlled transmission rod and a lever which only acts on the damped regulating device under conditions of excessive and prolonged load variations. The wheel 1 is carried by a lever 3 pivoted to the frame at 2 and connected at its other end to a piston rod 4 and piston 6 of an air cylinder 5. The lower part of the cylinder is connected by pipe 8 to a regulating device 9, in which is pivoted a lever 10, 12 and which is provided with air valves 17, 18, the valve 17 being in communication with an compressed air container 22 and the valve 18 communicating with the atmosphere. The lever 12 is connected to a spring cylinder 13 housing a spring 14 by means of which discs 15 are forced against collars on a transmission rod 16 connected to the lever 3. The lever 10 is also provided with vanes 24 operating in conjunction with an apertured wall 23 and a fluid to damp out small oscillations of the lever 10 and consequently of the wheel 1. The piston 6 is arranged centrally in the cylinder 5 and on major variation of the load it is displaced and the lever 10 in the regulating device 9 is operated through the rod 16, spring 14 and lever 12 so that it actuates one of the valves 17, 18 to increase or decrease the air pressure in the cylinder 5 below the piston 6 to bring it to central position again. Small oscillations of the wheel do not effect the regulation since in that case the lever 10 does not come into contact with the valves 17, 18. The regulating device may be operated by electrical contacts.
