836,100. Fluid-pressure brakes. KNORRBREMSE G.m.b.H. Nov. 21, 1958 [Nov. 23, 1957], No. 37545/58. Class 103 (1). A compressed air brake installation for vehicles equipped with pneumatic suspension, includes means which form a mean of the pressures in two compressed air springs, one on each end of a vehicle axle, such mean pressure serving as a load-dependant control pressure to vary the braking pressure. Pressure in air springs 3, 5 controlled by valves 33, 35 according to load, acts through pipes 45, 47 on connected pistons 48, 50 having an effective area ratio of 1 : 1, the pistons being displaced against spring 51 to adjust brake control valve 15, according to the mean axle loading, through linkage 53, 17. On braking, valve 15 separates brake pipe 13 from reservoir 25 and controls air flow from the reservoir to brake cylinder 21 depending on the drop in pressure in pipe 13 and the position of lever 17. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the air spring pressures act on parallel pistons acting on opposite ends of a balance beam connected to rod 17.
