Abstract

410,519. Shock-absorbers. HODGSON, A., Stancliffe Old Road, Wortley, near Sheffield. March 23, 1933, No. 8711/32. [Class 108 (iii).] In a hydraulic shockabsorber for vehicles in which a piston 1, Fig. 3, or oscillating vane 1, Fig. 1, is provided with a small aperture 12, a passage in a relatively fixed part of the shock-absorber is provided with a double non- return valve 11 which allows unrestrained movement of the axle in a direction away from its centre position, but constrains its movement in the return direction. In the form shown in Fig. 3, an air chamber 23 is arranged within the piston rod. An oil reservoir between the piston rod and the cover 6 communicates with the cylinder 2 through a non-return valve 5. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the valve 11 communicates through a passage with an outlet 16 in the boss of the vane 1.
