Abstract
393,061. Hydraulic shock-absorbers. ARMSTRONG, F. G. G., 14, York Road, Beverley, East Yorkshire. April 23, 1932, No. 11699. [Class 108 (iii).] In shock-absorbers of the type wherein a pair of pistons reciprocate within a pair of cylinders interconnected by a conduit for the flow of liquid from one cylinder to the other such as is described in Specification 366,167, means, dependent on the variation of temperature or pressure, are provided to vary the flow of liquid along the conduit and so vary the damping load. In the shock-absorber as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the passage 21 between the cylinders 10, 11 is controlled and adjusted according to the pressure inside the shockabsorber by the provision of a bellows arrangement 23 which is secured to the casing 24 and open to the atmosphere through opening 22. The bellows or other pressure variant is connected to a rod 27 by a bell-crank lever 25, the rod 27 baving a conical end to control the effective size of the passage 21. In another form the valve rod 27 may be actuated by a temperature variant such as a spring comprising two strips of metal of different coefficients of expansion.
