Abstract

214,432. John, F. March 29, 1923. Forging-machines; dies; shearing-adjuncts. - A metal forging press having a pair of horizontal opposing dies which act upon stock at right angles to an upsetting &c. tool is so designed that the shearing-mechanism lies slantwise to the line of action of the dies. The stock e is held between the dies b<1>, b<2> into recesses in which it is upset by a die d mounted in a reciprocating head c, the die being hollow to receive the stock. The head is interconnected by the linkage shown both with the die b<1> and with the shearing-mechanism h. The die b<2> may be operated in unison with the die b<1> or it may remain stationary during working, in which case toggle mechanism operated by a hand-crank k may be provided to withdraw the die b<2> when necessary. A shoot l is provided into which scrap, or small nuts, rings, bolts &c. may pass from the dies.
