[Class 83 (iv).] The cylindrical heads of blanks a3 for stay-bolts are swaged in unsplit dies, while the shaft is held by jaws. A plai cylindrical blank is supported in a recess of the same diameter in a die b, jaws d<1>, d<2> are placed about the shank, and a further die e having a recess of a diameter equal to that of the head required is assembled and secured by bolts h. The head is upset by a punch i. The lower die is then replaced by one adapted to receive the formed head, the bolt is reversed, and the operation is repeated to form the other head. The jaws d<1>, d<2> are formed conical to engage corresponding recesses in the dies b, e. In a modification, each jaw may be integral with a die, and the bolts h may be dispensed with.
