F orgingmachines; dies; perforating by forging. - Metal rings, particularly wheel-tyres, are made by upsetting a blank a between a stationarv member b and a mandrel e which moves downwards together with an upper die and a confining die-ring d. On contact of the ring d with the table c the mandrel e is advanced to effect a partial perforation of the blank, after which the mandrel is withdrawn and the member b lifted to cut out completely the central portion of the blank. The work may be used without further treatment or may be rolled directly without reheating. According to a modification the member b may be replaced by a sliding piece which is withdrawn after the shaping of the blank in order to allow the mandrel e to perform the whole of the cutting out operation.
