Abstract

425,525. Forging rings. RINGFEDER GES., and EDELMEIER, H., Uerdingen-on- Rhine, Germany. Aug. 11, 1934, No. 23260. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Blanks for treatment in a ring rolling machine are preliminarily shaped by deforming and punching a bar section to an annulus the crosssection of which is on each side of curved or polygonal arched shape or on one or more of the sides is of curved arch shape whilst the arch on one or more of the other sides is polygonal. As shown in Fig. 3, convex inner and outer surfaces 16 merge through rounded portions 20 into convex end portions 17. Punches 7, 8, 10 in an upper plate 5 convert a bar section 11 into an annulus 14, each partially pierced workpiece 12 formed by the punch 7 being inverted and placed on a centring punch 3 whereupon the punch 8 removes the bottom piece 13. The annulus is riveted again to be operated on by the punch 10 with which co-operate upper and lower dies 9, 4. The ring rolling operation may follow the blank forming operation immediately without further heating.
