Abstract

318,787. Friedman, J. H. Nov. 1, 1928. Forging-dies.- Tubular forgings are produced in recessed dies, the unsupported portion of the stock not exceeding four diameters in length. For long articles a succession of dies is employed and advantageously a collar is upset at the first stage to serve for centring the blank during later stages. Fig. 1 shows the work after the first stage, the punch 7 swelling out the work into the enlargement 4 and also forming the collar C. Fig. 2 shows the work in dies for a second stage prior to the action of the punch. Dies for four stages are illustrated.
