Abstract

258,499. Harvie, D., and Harvie, D. April 1, 1926. Pipes. - Expansion-rings for pipe systems are made by flanging the ends of a short pipe 4, Fig. 1, into the form shown in Fig. 7. The pipe is clamped at its mid-length between the halves 6 of a die, the punch 1, Fig. 4, being spigoted in a ring 2 which is clamped to the die-holder or ram 3. The flanging of the ends may be performed either consecutively or simultaneously. The work is carried out in stages by a set of progressively shaped punches co-operating with a set or correspondingly shaped dies, or with a single die shaped to the final contour. The work may be annealed between the pressing operations.
