Abstract

213,738. Bailey, F., and Bailey, T. Feb. 26, 1923. Wheel guards and safety appliances.-A rectangular frame 12 of angle-iron, the outer member of which is detachable to facilitate removal of the wheel, surrounds the wheel and is secured on its outer side to the axle 19 by a bracket 18 and on its inner side to the vehicle springs or to a steering-arm by brackets such as 21. The frame 12 is provided at its ends with plates 16. Blocks 13, carrying bristles 23 covered on their outer sides with rubber sheets 24, are suspended from each side of the frame 12 by chains 14. The blocks 13 on the outer side of the wheel mav be lifted from the road and displaced closer to the wheel by a cable 25 passing through or over an eye or pulley 27 and operated by a hand or foot lever. In a modified construction the frame 12 is of wood and carries curved end-plates. The blocks 13 are secured directly to the frame and are provided with bristles on each side of the rubber sheets 24.
