Abstract

Nitric acid of 80-90 per cent concentration is obtained from nitrous gases by passing the latter together with water and oxygen or air in contact with an absorbent material such as highly porous or activated silica and liberating the nitric acid produced by heating. Alternatively, oxygen or air together with steam are passed over the adsorption medium containing the nitrogen oxides.
