Abstract

A mixture of carbon dioxide and hydrogen is produced in the production of a non-poisonous town gas by passing the original gas together with water vapour over a catalyst, such as calcined dolomite, which absorbs the carbon dioxide as it is formed. The reaction is carried out at high temperatures. Organic sulphur compounds present in the gas are also partly removed by being converted to sulphuretted hydrogen which is partly absorbed by the dolomite.
