Channels ard reservoir in stuffing-boxes of the type described in Specification 20952/08, [Class 122, Steam engines]. An annular recess S<3> for lubricant is formed 'between the liner P and the wall of the stuffing-box. The lubricant is supplied by a passage S and a slot S<2> in the stuffing-box to the recess S<3> and passes by ports P<4> to the rod. Ports may also be formed in the casing R for the packing Q. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 23154/95, [Class 122, Steam engines].
