[Classes 122 (i) and 122 (v)] In an engine using superheated steam the piston e, Fig. 1, is formed with an extension c provided with packing grooves d, the packing- rings being located at the end of the piston remote from the steam. The liner jacket is supplied with cooler steam from an intermediate stage in the engine. The stuffing-box, Fig. 2, is similarly formed, the packing grooves being formed in removable sleeves i, k. Leakage steam is drained away by a passage p, and water of condensation by a passage t, and lubricant is supplied by a passage s.
