Connected to source of high pressure; draining; packing, adjusting; glands; bushes.-A stuffing-box of the type in which the packing 9 is compressed by rings 11, 12 forced apart by springs 13 and fluid pressure, is applied to a drum &c. 5 revolving on a stationary member 6, the fluid being supplied to the space between the rings 11, 12 by a passage 18 in the member 6. The invention is shown applied to a condenser of the type described in Specification 5223/15, [Class 32, Distilling &c.]. In order to prevent jamming of the rings 11, 12 their outer peripheries are formed spherical and their bores clear the member 6. The rings are formed with recesses 20 to prevent closure of the passage 18. The springs 13 are housed in pockets in the rings 11, 12, relative rotation of the rings being prevented by pins in one ring engaging holes in the other. The gland 7, the rings 11, 12 and an end ring 10 are formed with doubly-bevelled faces for engaging the packing. A leakage-collecting groove 21 in the gland communicates with a passage 22 in the member 6.
