Abstract

216,392. Chelley, J. July 30, 1923. Packing, metallic; bushes.-Packing comprises two pairs of segmental brass rings 9, the joints between the segments being closed by copper tongue pieces 10, one of which in each pair of rings is formed with a projection engaging the other ring of the pair, in order to prevent relative movement. The rings are bevelled and the inner rings engage coned rings 14, 19, the latter having sockets containing springs 17 which act on a flanged ring 15 to compress the packing. The outer rings of the pairs engage conical seatings in rings 8, 20, which make spherical joints with steel liners 6, 3 fitted with brass bushes 7, 4. Wear can be compensated by the insertion of washers above the springs 17.
