Stuffing-boxes, substitutes for; packing, compound metallic and non-metallic; packing, extracting.-Packing for a rotary shaft comprises a rubber ring c bearing on a shoulder on the shaft and disposed between antifriction metal rings a, b. the rings being locked together by pins c<2>. The ring c is split at one point, and the rings a, b are in halves with stepped joints the pins c<2> passing through the joints. A spring may be inserted between the packing and the gland d. The packing is removed by inserting wires in holes in the rings.
