Abstract

6257. Chappeau, P. March 19, 1912, [Convention date]. Packing, extracting. - Packing of the type shown in Fig. 2 is modified to facilitate removal from its box. The packing is made of metal, wood, india-rubber, ebonite, leather, &c., and is applicable to steam, compressed-air, or hydraulic engines, and consists of a bush 3 in one or more parts with conical ends acted on by bevelled rings 1. The bush 3 is formed with a groove to receive the hooked ends of rods 13 carried by a stirrup 12 and secured by a slide 12<1>. A similar instrument for removing the inner ring 1 has hooked ends engaging holes in the ring 1. The outer ring 1 has tapped holes to receive removing rods.
