10,023. Robson, J. B. L. April 30. Stuffing - boxes.- A packing-ring is divided by tangential cuts into segments B, C, Fig. 2. The segments are braced together by two springs, which lie each in a groove D, one of which is shown, and are secured to pins E. There may be four springs, in which case each segment has pins E. In some cases the ring has parallel grooves each containing springs. One arrangement of this packing is shown in Fig. V. Two rings A with washers F and a compound ring G containing springs J for axial adjustment are contained in a box H, supplied with lubricant by a passage X. The rod is further packed by a grooved sleeve I adjusted axially by springs L. In another arrangement, three rings A, Fig. VI, are held in a removable casing L. Usual adjustment is effected by the compound spring ring M.
