Abstract

10,498. Bone, A. J. July 20. Packing, metallic; boxes.-Relates to packing of the type comprising rings pressed into a conical box by a conical ring. It consists of four rings n, o, p, s of antifriction metal, each made in three segments. The outer rings n, s are coned throughout their length, while the inner rings o, p are coned for a part of their length only, and have a rounded groove q and two V-grooves r cut in their cylindrical portions to trap leakage. The coned ring i is pressed into the box by springs placed between rings g, h. The box rests on a ring f having a spherical seating on the part b. Outside the box containing the packing described above may be bolted a second box containing a packing of identical construction.
