26,827. Mortimer, J. E. Nov. 30. Packing, metallic.-Packing-rings f, g are each formed in three segments having at their ends flanges f<1>, g'. Curved springs h, h<1>, h<2>, i, &c. engage the remote ends of adjacent segments and compress the packing. Joint pieces k between the ends of the segments of each ring extend between flanges f<2>, g<2> on the other ring. The packing is compressed axially between rings m, n forming a spherical joint and a ring c formed with recesses receiving plungers e containing springs d. The rings m, n, c are formed in segments secured together by springs, and the ring m is formed with a groove for soft packing o. Rings formed with grooves for woodite or other packing, and fitting the interior of the box, may be placed at the ends of the packing, and similar rings may be used for dividing the box into a number of compartments each containing packing.
