Packing, metaHtc; packing, removable casings, containers, or carriers for; packing, adjusting.-Packing for a piston-rod or valve-rod &c. consists of segmental bevelled rings D pressed inwards by rings F which are pressed axially by springs L. Each ring F is formed in two parts, pins f on one half entering corresponding holes in the other half. The rings F engage one another by flanges G entering grooves G<1>. The packing is enclosed in a casing B. The nuts M securing the gland H can be tightened simultaneously by means of a pinion M' on each nut engaging a loose spurwheel N, held in position by flanges M<2> on the nuts.
