Abstract

The arrangement provides a seal between coaxial components (1, 2) with axial relative movement and has an annular groove (3) in one component containing a ring (4) sealingly engaging the other component. The annular seal (4) consists of a number of superimposed rings (6), which may be in e.g. a semihard plastics material. The rings are radially sprung and tightly packed side by side in the groove (3). The rings are provided with radial slots (5), such that the slots of adjacent rings (6a, 6b) are staggered around the circumference. The slots of adjacent rings may be 180 deg. apart.
