Abstract

103,748. Deam, J. May 8, 1916. Piston packing.- Packing for a piston, pump bucket, &c., comprises a main split packing-ring 14 placed between two split rings 3, 4, which are restrained in expansion by an undivided ring 10 having shoulders engaging flanges on the rings 3, 4. The rings 3, 4, 10 are held together by bolts 13 screwing into the ring 4 and passing through enlarged holes in the rings 3, 10. Expansion of the ring 14 is limited by a bevelled flange on the ring 4 engaging a similar surface on the ring 14. Washers 18 placed between the rings 14, 3 are enclosed by a flange 18<a> on the ring 14 entering a recess 19 in the ring 3. By placing one or more of the washers 18 between the rings 14, 4, further expansion of the ring 14 is permitted. Split rings 7, 8 are lodged in grooves in the rings 3, 4.
