Abstract

108,972. Deam, J. Nov. 9, 1916. Piston packing.-Packing for pistons, piston valves, and pump plungers, of the type in which an outer split ring 1 is expanded by an inner split ring 8, is restrained in expansion by solid end rings 5, 6 formed with conical surfaces 3<a>, 4<a> engaging similar surfaces on the packing-rings. Liners 16 are placed between the ring 6 and the ring 8. and adjustment is effected by transferring one or more liners to a pocket formed between the ring 5 and the ring 8. The contraction of the packing may be limited by liners placed in the split of the ring 8. The rings 5, 6 are connected by bolts 11 passing through clearance holes in the ring 8.
