Packing, metallic. - Packing for piston-rods &c. consists of two or more segmental rings a, b, k, one within the other, the engaging surfaces of the rings being conical, or spherical as shown. The rings fit within one another in such a manner that they are provided at one end with flush surfaces which abut against an annular plate g. Gaps are left between the segments of the rings to allow for wear. The segments of the ring b are resiliently connected, for instance by springs f attached to lugs on adjacent segments. The packing is pressed axially by a spring-loaded ring i.
