Abstract

268,013. United Kingdom Self-Adjusting Anti-Friction Metallic Packing Syndicate, Ltd., and Brooks, F. G. Dec. 19, 1925. Packing, metallic; packing, removable casings, containers, or carriers for; followers, bushes, and the like; packing, extracting. - Packing comprises two segmental cast-iron rings K separated by a, ring M, which may be of gun-metal, and is formed with radial slots receiving pins k<3> on the segments. The joints of the segments are preferably at an angle between a radius and a tangent to the bore. The packing is contained in a, casing comprising telescopic parts E, G, the latter being of gun-metal. Both parts are stepped to receive bushes F, H of gun-metal or the like. The casing is pressed on to a ring P, making a spherical joint with the gland Q, by means of a, spring C, one end of which is housed in a recess in the neck bush B, while the other end embraces a sleeve d' on a ring D bearing on the casing ring E. The bore a<1> in which the neck bush fits is of sufficient diameter to permit the passage of an enlarged part on the rod R, and the rings D, H and bushes F, H are formed in halves. The bush B and ring D are formed with tapped holes T to receive a withdrawing tool. Specification 210,494 is referred to.
