Universal joints for small motor vehicles &c.-Shafts A, B carry mutually-perpendicular pairs of outwardlydirected coaxial trunnions a', b<1> adapted respectively to engage radial holes d<1>, d<2> in a divided ring d, the holes d<2> being formed by semicylindrical depressions in the abutting faces of the semicircular halves of the ring, as shown in Fig. 4. In a modification, the ring d is built up of four segments, and the holes d' also are formed between abutting faces thereof. The segments are held in place by flanged cover-plates e, e<1>, which are drawn together to make an oil-tight joint between their flanges e<2> by bolts f passing through holes d<3> in the ring parts, and are provided with apertures e<3> allowing clearance for the angular movement of the forked shaft ends a, b. Wear can be taken up by replacing the ring d by one having smaller holes d<1>, d<2> According to the Provisional Specification, packing may be interposed between the flanges e<2>.
