Abstract

365,604. Endless-tracks for vehicles. SCOTT, R. E., Wolmer View, Whitehill, Borden, Hampshire. Oct. 22, 1930, No. 31711. [Class 79 (i).] The units of an endless track are hinged together by pin joints whereof the pins 33 are housed in bushes each comprising an internal sleeve 29, an external sleeve 30, and a cylindrical ring 28 of rubber or like material located between the two sleeves and maintained under such radial compression as to prevent slip between the said rubber ring and each of the said sleeves. In the construction shown each unit or track link is formed with three lugs 10, 11, 12 at one end and two corresponding lugs 15, 16 at the other end. The bushes are preferably of the Silent-Bloc type, the outer sleeves 30 being held stationary in the lugs 15, 16 of one track link 26 by making them a driving fit therein, while the inner sleeves 29 are held stationary in the adjoining link 27 by jamming them against the central lug 11. For this purpose the pin 33 of the joint is formed as a bolt and passes through sleeves 31, 32 which slide in the lugs 12, 10 and abut against the sleeves 29 so that when the nut 34 is tightened the sleeves 29 are forced against the lug 11. A wedge may be used instead of the nut 34. The track links are preferably cast and each is provided with a sprocket-engaging tooth 19, guide ribs 20, 21 to co-operate with the usual guide rollers, and transverse ground-engaging spuds 22, 23.
