409,432. Driving-chains ; lubricating. KJAER, V. A., 16, Hoyensgade, Copenhagen. Nov. 25, 1932, No. 33349. Convention date, Jan. 12. [Class 24.] In chains of the type consisting of inner link plates 1, Fig. 5, connected by a bush 4 and outer links 2 connected by a pin 3, the bearing surfaces of the bush and pin or both are convex towards each so that substantially complete contact over the whole length of the bearing surfaces is attained only when the bush is subjected under load to elastic deformation at its ends. The bearing surfaces may be formed on a continuous convex curve or, as shown in Fig. 7, the central part 9 may be cylindrical and the ends 8 conical. Alternatively, the end parts may consist of two cylindrical surfaces, the axes of which are inclined slightly to the axis of the pin. The pin has a central cavity 10, with retaining rings 12, for containing lubricant which reaches the bearing surfaces by way of radial passages 11 and longitudinal channels 13, the distribution being promoted by the pumping action of the bush in its alternating movements.
