Abstract
193,676. Rogers, F. H., (Woodstock Typewriter Co.). Feb. 27, 1922. Letter-spacing mechanism- Escapement mechanism comprises a fast dog adjustable, to vary the speed of the escapement mechanism, in a path concentric with the escapement wheel. Preferably, the fast dog 29 is formed with an arcuate slot 32 which is concentric with the escapement wheel 3 and receive screws 33 for securing the dog to a rocker 15. The fast dog may have a radial face 31 and a bevelled releasing-edge 50 co-operating with radial teeth on the escapement wheel. The fast dog is normally out of engagement with the escapement wheel. The loose dog 42 is normally in engagement and is formed on a slide 30 having a slot 34 engaging a pin 35 on the rocker. An actuating-spring 37 is connected to an arm 36 of the slide and a bracket 39 on the rocker, a lug 41 on the bracket preventing upward movement of the slide. The rocker 15 is secured by a screw 11 to a spindle, 10 mounted in brackets 8, 9. An universal bar 5, actuated by type-levers and returned by a spring 6, is formed with arms 25 pivoted to arms 24 which are pivoted on the brackets 8, 9. One of the arms 24 has a forked end 26 for engaging a screw 27 mounted in arm 16 on the rocker, there being slight lost-motion between the fork and the screw. A rocker-returning spring 53 is connected to a rod 51 adjustably mounted in the bracket 8. The movement of the rocker is limited by the engagement of the arm 16 with screws 19 mounted in a channelled member 17 secured to the bracket 8. In some cases, a yoke 23 joining the arms 24 may carry a stop-screw 55, Fig. 3, adapted to engage a stop-screw 57 on the framework 4. The brackets 8, 9 may be detachable. Carriage-releasing arrangements.-A releasing- lever 45, Fig. 1, having a lip 46 engaging the end 43 of the loose dog 30, is actuated by a roller 48 connected to the tabulating-key. A spring 45 returns the lever to the normal position.
