Abstract
204,793. Marks, E. C. R., (Corona Typewriter Co., Inc.). July 11, 1922. Line-spacing mechanism.-A line-spacing lever, mounted to slide and rock on an axis transverse to that of the platen, is provided with a spacing- pawl and an overthrow-preventing pawl which are spaced axially and co-operate with different teeth on the line-spacing wheel. A U-shaped linespacing lever 17, formed with a finger-piece 16a, a spacing-pawl 20, and an overthrow-preventing pawl 35, can slide and rock on a pin 15 supported by a bracket 8 on the carriage 1, the pawls cooperating with a ratchet-wheel 5 on the platen 4. The initial axial position of the lever 17 is adjusted to vary the line-spacing by means of a stop-piece 24 pivoted on a lug 26 on the bracket 8 and formed with stop-faces 27, 28 for single and double spacing respectively. The stop-piece is retained by a friction-washer 31 and is formed with a projection 29 which abuts on a projection 30 of the lug 26 when the face 27 is in position. On rocking the lever 17, the pawl 20 moves into engagement with and rotates the ratchet-wheel, the movement being arrested by engagement of the pawl 35 with the long face of one of the teeth on the ratchet-wheel. The lever 17 has a uniform rocking movement, and a variable axial movement. A spring 22 returns the lever 17 to the initial position, the rocking movement being limited by engagement of a finger 21 on the lever with the end plate 2 of the carriage.
