Abstract
372,869. Typewriters. REMINGTON TYPEWRITER CO., Ilion, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Going, G. G.; 5, Nash Court, Glenbrook, Connecticut, U.S.A.) March 5, 1931, No. 6912. Convention date, May 10, 1930. [Class 100 (iv).] Type-lever, type-bar, and type-wheel actions; driving-mechanism.-A type-member consisting of a lever, sliding bar, wheel, or segment is reciprocated for impression by means of a rotary arm arranged to make a substantially complete revolution on operation of a key. In the noiseless, relay, type-lever action shown in the Figure, a type-lever 1 is connected to a toggle consisting of a link 18, and a rotary arm 19 which is pivoted at 23 and is arranged on depression of a key 61 to make a substantially complete revolution and thereby actuate and return the type-lever, the toggle being straight and extended at the time of impression. The arm 19 is provided with a pinion for co-operating with teeth 27 on a rocking plate 26 engaging a pin 36 on a lever 35 which is connected by a link 38 to the driving-mechanism described below. The rocking plate has a slot 29 engaging a pivot 28, and is connected to a spring 32 which normally bolds the rocking plate in contact with a stop 30 and out of engagement with the pinion. On depression of the key, the link 38 descends, the rocking plate is raised to engage the pinion and is rocked rearwards, the rotary arm makes a substantially complete revolution, and the type-lever is actuated and returned. The spring 32 moves to the rear of the pivot 28 and, when the link 38 rises, is effective to depress and then to return the rocking plate. For .arresting and holding the rotary arm in initial position, the rocking plate is provided with a buffer 41 and a lug 42. When the rocking plate is in the rear position, the buffer engages the rotary arm, and on return of the rocking plate, the rotary arm drops and is afterwards raised and held by co-operation of a lug 43 thereon and the lug 42. The type-lever and key-lever are mounted on a segment 4 and a bar 65, and the other parts of the action are mounted as a unit on a plate 8 which is arranged substantially radially to the printing point and is secured to segments 10, 14. The driving- mechanism comprises a driving-shaft 44 cooperating with an eccentric 52 on a bell crank 46 connected bv a link 50 and intermediate lever 64 to the link 38. The key-lever 59 is connected by a link 57 to a trip-lever 55 having lugs 54, 63 for engaging a lug 53 on the eccentric. Each set of levers 64, 35 is of uniform length, and the levers 64 are mounted radially in the segment 4. The levers have apertures 69, 68 for connection of the links 38, and the levers 64 have also apertures 66 for connection of the links 50, these being arranged in the straight row, and the points of connection of the links 38 being so arranged as to provide uniform movement for the levers 35.
