Line-spacing mechanism.-A pawl co-operating with a ratchet-wheel is adjusted to vary the line spacing by a finger-lever mounted on the pawl-carrying lever on the same pivot as the pawl; the pawl-carrying lever may have a tappet for forcing a detent into engagement with the ratchet-wheel. A lever A pivoted on a stud B on the carriage R and connected by a link D to the line-spacing lever E, carries a pawl G which co-operates with a ratchet-wheel C and is adjusted for single, double, or treble spacing by a finger-lever J pivoted on the pivot H of the pawl. A spring K retains the pawl in contact with a projection J<1> on the finger-lever. The fingerlever is retained by a notched plate L on the lever A; or a spring-plunger on the finger-lever may engage notches in the lever A. A lever M mounted on the stud B carries a detent roller N which is forced into engagement with the ratchetwheel by an adjustable tappet 0 on the lever A. The detent roller can be released by means of a finger-lever P engaging the tail M<1> of the lever M. The line-spacing mechanism is so arranged as to permit removal of the platen from the carriage.
