428,588. Typewriters &c. WANDERERWERKE VORM. WINKLHOFER & JAENICKE AKT.-GES., Sch÷nau, near Chemnitz, Germany. Oct. 24, 1934, No. 30528. Convention date, Oct. 24, 1933. [Class 100 (iv)] Line-spacing mechanism.-A pawl-carrier provided with a space-adjusting device is actuated directly by an arm of the spacing- lever, the pawl-carrier and spacing-lever being separately mounted on the platen-carriage. A cushioning-member may be arranged between the pawl-carrier and spacing-lever. The mechanism shown in Figs. 1 and 3 is mounted as a unit on a frame 2 attached to the platen-frame. The mechanism comprises a rocking carrier or arm 8 mounted on a pivot 6 and provided with a spring-urged pawl 7 for co-operation with a ratchet-wheel 4 on the platen-shaft 3<a>. The pivot 17 of the pawl is arranged between cheeks 12 on the rocking arm. A spacing-adjuster, mounted on the rocking arm, consists of a revoluble knob 24 having a cam-face 23 which co-operates with the tail 22 of the pawl to determine the point of engagement of the tooth 21 of the pawl with the ratchet-wheel. The knob has space-indicating numerals on the top, and is provided with a sleeve 27 having flats 28 co-operating with a spring-detent. The spacing lever 35 is mounted on a pivot 40 and is formed with an arm 39 having a roller 34 which engages a spring cushioning-blade 33 on the arm 8. The arm and spacing-lever are returned by means of springs 14, 42, and are arrested by means of a pin 37 arranged in the path of short arm 41 on the spacing-lever. The pawl is formed with an overthrow-preventing tooth 38. The ratchet-wheel co-operates with a detent-roller 43 carried by a spring-urged lever 44 which is mounted on an adjustable eccentric-pivot 45, and engages a releaselever 46.
