Abstract

193,017. Soc. Rateau. Feb. 7, 1922, [Convention date]. Spray carburettors.-The air supply of pressure-fed aircraft engines is cooled by circulating a liquid through one or more cooling-devices arranged in the path of the air and then through one or more radiators situated in the air stream of the aircraft. The air pipe a leading from the compressor b to the carburettor d is enlarged to form a cooling-device c traversed laterally by pipes through which a cooling-liquid is circulated by a pump l. The liquid passes by a pipe j to a radiator i situated in the air stream of the aircraft, and returns to the pump by a pipe k. The compressor b is surrounded by a jacket n through which a cooling-liquid is passed either by an independent circulating system, or by branch pipes m, o leading from the pipes k, j. The pump l may be driven by the engine, by the compressor, or by a screw propeller situated in the air stream of the aircraft. The compressor may be driven directly by the engine, or by a turbine b driven by the engine exhaust.
