Abstract
192,311. Law, C. J. March 16, 1922. Vaporizers, external.-Mixture from a carburettor is heated on its way to the engine by passing through a tubular member and over hollow bars therein, exhaust gases in controlled quantity passing around the tube and through the bars. Between the engine manifold 11, Fig. 2, and the flange 13 of the carburettor outlet pipe 12, is a casing 10 containing a tubular member 23 having hollow bars 25 formed integrally therewith. Exhaust gases under the control of a valve 19, Fig. 1, which may be connected to the carburettor throttle valve, enter the casing at 17 and, after passing over the member 23 and through the bars 25 therein, may leave by any one of the outlets 14, 15, 16. As shown in Fig. 1, the outlet 16 is in use, the ethers being closed by plugs and the member 23 is so adjusted that the bars therein are arranged angularly to the path of the exhaust gases through the casing 10. The walls of the bars are thin, the ends are tapered as at 26 to minimize resistance and a gauze screen is fitted at 27.
