Abstract
1923. Birmingham Small Arms Co., and Norman, G. Feb. 27, 1914. Breech actions, sliding breech-block.-Consists in a special construction of. and method of fixing, the closing-cap for the rear end of the breech casing of an automatic gun. The cap 9 has internal grooves 10 which form continuations of the guide-grooves 11 in the breech-body for the locking-lugs on the bolt ; thus, when the cap is removed and the bolt drawn back to its rearmost position, the bolt can be rotated to disengage it from the bolt-operating slide. The cap is fixed in position by interrupted screw-threads 12, Fig. 3, and a spring catch 14, Fig. 1, and may also be provided on its underside with a rib 15, which enters a blind slot in the breech-body and further supports the cap and limits its rotation. The invention is shown applied to a gun having the breech action described in Specification 5068/14. The Provisional Specification also describes a non-circular cap which is passed vertically or sideways into position and locked by a spring catch, cross-pin, or bolt.
