Abstract

20,364. Fittipaldi, R. Jan. 10. Breech actions, sliding barrel and breech-block. - Relates to recoiling- barrel automatic guns of the kind having a rotary breech-bolt, operated by a non - rotary firing-pin. According to the invention, longitudinal guide - grooves are formed in the breech-casing adapted to be engaged by the locking - lugs on the breech-bolt, during the reciprocating m o v e - ment of the bolt, as well as by guide-lugs on the firing-pin. A shoulder on the firing-pin is engaged by a catch to retain the firing-pin in its rearmost position until it is released by the firing-button. Fig. 1 is a vertical section and Fig. 6 an horizontal section of the gun, showing the breech closed and locked. The rotary breech-bolt 34 has locking-lugs 33 at its front end which enter recesses 40 in the breech-casing 5, and thereby lock the breech when the bolt is rotated by the advance of studs 22 on the firing-pin 13 along cam-slots 21 in the breechbolt. When unlocked, the lugs 33 can enter guide-grooves 41 in the breech-casing 5, which grooves are also engaged by the head 42 of the firing-pin 13, so that, when the bolt is withdrawn to open the breech, the same grooves 41 prevent rotation of the bolt 34 as well as of the firing-pin. The unlocking occurs during the counter-recoil of the barrel and breechcasing when the firing-pin is drawn back by a catch 10 on an arm 12, which arm is rocked on a fixed pivot 27 by a pin 37 at its lower end entering slots in the recoiling side-plates 31 of the breech-casing 5. During recoil, the upper end of the arm 12 is rocked forwards to engage the shoulder 14 on the firing-pin, and during the return, is rocked back again, opening the breech and bringing the catch 10 up to the firing-button 1.
