Abstract
17,373. Stamm, H. May 6, [Convention date]. Breech actions, sliding breech-block.-Relates to straight-pull bolt actions operated by a non- rotary sleeve mounted on the bolt, and consists mainly in forming the locking-lugs at the rear of the bolt so that the sleeve can be slipped on to the bolt from the front. The invention also comprises safety mechanism and a bolt stop. The operating-sleeve 5, mounted on the bolt 3, is limited in its movement by the locking- lugs 4 and by a shoulder 11, Fig. 2, on the extractor. The bolt stop comprises a spring catch 15, Figs. 2 and 3, adapted to engage a recess 17 near the head of the bolt. At the front of the sear is a projection 41, Figs. 4 and 5, adapted, when the trigger is pulled, to rise by the side of one of the locking-lugs 4 and to hold the breech-bolt against rotation. If the bolt is not properly locked, the projection 41 encounters the locking-lug, and the sear cannot be released. At the rear of the firing-pin is a lateral arm 21 which can be turned to engage either a deep notch or a shallow notch in a sleeve 25 mounted at the rear of the bolt. When the arm is in engagement with the shallow notch, the firing-pin cannot advance sufficiently to fire the gun. The sleeve is cammed back when the bolt is turned to unlock it, thereby retracting the firing-pin.
