Abstract

12,158. Ashton, T. R. R. May 17. Breech actions, sliding barrel and breechblock.-Relates to "long-recoil" guns having a tilting breech-block as described in Specification 28,246/09, and consists (1) in means for causing positive extraction, and (2) in a safety device. To cause positive extraction, a laterally projecting lug a', Fig. 2, on the breech-bolt, engages a rearwardly inclined cam-surface d<2>, Fig. 1, on the breech-frame. Thus when, at the end of the recoil, the rear end of the bolt is raised by the inclined surface h, the breechbolt, together with its extractor f, is positively retracted relatively to the breech-frame. In a modification, the lug is on the frame, and the cam-surface on the breech-bolt. To ensure safety, the head c<1> of the firing-pin is located in a recess in the breech-block, and the hammer has a projecting nose e<1>, which registers with the recess only when the breech-bolt is in the lowered or locked position.
