Abstract

181,807. Marga, U. A. March 17, 1921. Breech actions, sliding barrel and breech-block. - Relates to automatic guns of the short barrel-recoil type having on the breech-block a locking-member operated to the locking-position by the firing-pin. According to the invention, the locking-member is a sliding bolt adapted to be displaced normally to the axis of the gun by a rebound action firing-pin. In Fig. 1, the invention is shown applied to a gun having a barrel 5 which rotates during its short recoil. The laterally sliding locking-bolt 24, mounted in the breech-block 4, is moved outwards by the advancing firing-pin 9 to engage a hooked catch 23 on the barrel. The bolt 24 and catch 23 are disengaged, to unlock the breech, by rotation of the barrel 5 caused by a stud 7 on the barrel engaging a helical slot 8 in the casing. Firing is effected by an inclined sliding hammer 14, which, during the opening of the breech, bears against the side of the breech-block and acts as a brake. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the barrel 5 does not rotate, the bolt 17 being moved to its unlocking position by inclined bearing surfaces between the bolt and the locking-catch 23 on the barrel.
