Abstract
543,465. Automatic guns. JOHNSON, jun., M. M. July 8, 1940, No. 11392. [Class 119] Relates to short-recoil rotarybolt breech actions of the kind described in Specifications 486,907 and 511,365, in which the breech block 5 carries a doublyinclined roller member 24, the unlocking incline 23 engaging a fixed incline 26 on the casing, and the locking incline 22 being engaged by an incline 30 on a roller member 31 upstanding from a spring pressed member 6 which forces the bolt to closed position and locks it to the barrel. According to the present invention, the surfaces 23, 26 are separated in the locked position of the bolt by a gap so that unlocking rotation of the bolt does not occur until the bolt has acquired momentum and impacts the surface 26. The pivoted hammer has a projection 34 engaging a control member 33 to prevent firing until the breech is closed and locked when a sear 8 is released by a projection 37 on the member 6. Rebound of the bolt in the longitudinal direction is prevented by the engagement of the projection 34 on the hammer behind the member 33, and rotary rebound of the bolt is prevented by the engagement of a fin 35 on the bolt behind a spring detent 50 on the gun casing.
