Abstract

191,479. Holder, E. H. Oct. 13, 1921. Wheels with non-supporting casings enclosing spokes. -The means for securing spoke-enclosing discs 13 consists of a split expansible spring ring 23 adapted to engage the face of a shoulder 17 carried by the wheel hub and the central margin of the disc with or without the interposition of a packing ring 22 which may be attached to the disc. The shoulder may consist of an existing part of the wheel, such as the inner hub flange of a wire spoke wheel, or may be provided by a separate channel ring 15 secured against the spokes by studs 19, plates 20, and nuts 21. The ring 23 may be wedge-shaped in section, and may be provided with notches at the gap to allow the insertion of a suitable tool for withdrawing it out of its operative position.
