Abstract

21,715. Malato, V. E. Oct. 31, 1913, [Convention date]. S y r i n g e s . - A hypodermic syringe comprises a barrel 1 with a flange 2 and nozzle 3<1>, and a piston 4 open at the lower end and provided at the top with an opening 8 adapted to be closed by the thumb when the piston is being forced into the barrel. A filtering-chamber 6 containing asbestos wool is provided in the piston. The nozzle 3<1> may be integral with the barrel 1 or may be a separate tube fitted to the barrel. When the syringe is to have a siphon action, a tube 20 with a nozzle 3 for the needle is fitted outside the barrel 1, and a loose tube 21 is interposed between the nozzle 3<1> and the tube 20. The movement of the piston is controlled by a brake comprising two springs 10 fixed at one end to blocks 12 on a collar 11 resting on the flange 2, and engaged at the other end by screws 17 working in the blocks 12. The collar 11 is clamped to the syringe by a collar 13 below the flange 2 connected to the collar 11 by screws.
