Abstract
718,150. Hypodermic syringes. LEWIS, O. E. C. May 21, 1953 [June 4, 1952], No. 14133/52. Class 81(2) A piston for a hypodermic syringe comprises a glass or ceramic cylindrical body portion having a part of reduced diameter at one end, to which a mounting cap is attached. The reduced end portion 12 of the body 8 may have a peripheral groove 17 into which the side wall 16 of the cupshaped cap 13 is turned. In this construction the body part 12 is preferably given a slight taper to ensure rigid engagement. The piston rod 9 may either be screwed directly into the cap or into a shouldered collar passed through the wall 15 from the inner side thereof. Spring locating means are provided to prevent unwanted freedom of the piston in the syringe barrel. This may be in the form of a spring ring set in the groove 17 or in a separate groove 22 or as a spring blade clamped to the cap by the plunger rod. It is also proposed to attach the plunger to the end cap. by means of a screw-threaded connection.
